On May 10th, Provar’s team of experts (Richard Clark, Chief Product Officer, and Samuel Arroyo, Senior Product Manager) hosted an interactive webinar on ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot alongside Vernon Keenan, Senior Industry Analyst at SalesforceDevops.net. ChatGPT is a powerful conversational AI platform that can help businesses and organizations succeed in various ways. GitHub Copilot is a cloud-based artificial intelligence tool that assists users of integrated development environments by autocompleting code. Both platforms can be used in software development projects to check, explain, or create new code based on English descriptions (AKA generative coding).

In the webinar, we shared our top tips to help attendees maximize their success with these platforms and demonstrated some of the incredible features available to help them succeed. Here’s a quick summary of what we covered.

What is Generative Coding?

We started the webinar by explaining what generative coding is: using an AI Pair Programmer to assist in designing, developing, and implementing a complex system. Examples include EinsteinGPT for developers, GitHub Copilot as an autocomplete system for large code segments, OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 to generate new code according to a pattern, and ChatGPT-4 or other large language models (LLMs) functioning as a software engineering consultant and workhorse.

Getting Started with ChatGPT-4

We then went into a demo portion on how to get started with ChatGPT-4. This included demos of using ChatGPT-4 to replicate an existing pattern in code and to analyze and refactor code. This portion of the webinar took a deep dive into how to best utilize this platform for these solutions and was highly interactive.

ChatGPT in Salesforce DevOps Implementations

There are endless ways to integrate ChatGPT in Salesforce DevOps implementations, and we went over some of the market research for Salesforce DevOps that came about from inputting different testing solutions into ChatGPT and the subsequent responses. For example, ChatGPT can identify competitors and compare and contrast their various capabilities.

Getting Started with GitHub Copilot

We also reviewed how to use GitHub Copilot similarly to ChatGPT-4. We explored the platform with attendees and again engaged in interactive demonstrations. We discussed signing up for Copilot and Copilot Labs and installing the Copilot extensions in VS Code. We demoed GitHub Copilot’s capabilities with auto-completion, making code more robust, modularizing code, and fixing bugs. We closed this section with a Copilot X sneak peek.

Provar AI Integration Roadmap

Finally, we discussed how Provar integrates AI into its solutions and our roadmap for the future. Some of these intelligent capabilities included test and data generation, page recognition, element recognition, automatic page navigation, automatic component navigation, and automatic execution by metadata change. We also discussed where AI could be the most useful in software quality, an exciting dive forward into the future. We concluded this section with an overview of how Provar uses AI today and how it will continue innovating and integrating it into its solutions in the future.

Join the Conversation

The webinar concluded with an audience Q&A session, allowing attendees to ask questions about ChatGPT. We encouraged them to share their experiences and challenges integrating ChatGPT into their Salesforce delivery.

One question discussed in the Q&A portion revolved around privacy concerns. Vernon Keenan weighed in:

“Well, there are two things I’d like to recommend. One is to be cautious – turn off the ‘save chat’ feature if you’re concerned about privacy or have a corporate policy. I recommend not to shut off your usage of this new technology because of privacy concerns. If you’re a senior executive or such, you should organize some pilot group to start figuring out what’s going on with this stuff within your organization. So you can test it yourself so that you don’t get blindsided. We’re dealing with an exponential phenomenon right now with generative AI. It is now in this rapid expansion phase, and your competitors are looking at it.” – Vernon Keenan, Senior Industry Analyst at SalesforceDevops.net

Vern also wrote about the event on his blog. Check it out here for additional insights and information about using ChatGPT for Salesforce generative coding!

The webinar was exceptionally well attended, and we thank all who joined. We hope it served as an excellent resource for businesses and organizations looking to get the most out of ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot.
