Git plugin information
With Provar version 2.2.0 and future releases, you no longer need to install the Git plugin. We’ve packaged this together with our installer files. As a result, the Provar plugin installer will no longer show Git as an option. You can still enable the Jira, TFS and SVN plugins as previously.
If you are using a version of Provar prior to 2.2.0, Provar has a Git plugin which gives testers the ability to perform Git activities from within Provar. This page provides more information on setting up this plugin.
Once the Git plugin is installed, you will need a Provar Project to work on. Refer to Git and Provar Projects to learn more about importing a Provar Project from an existing local repository, cloning from an existing Project stored in Git or creating a Project locally and linking it to Git.
You can also refer to Working with Git for more best practices on using Git with Provar.
Note: If you do not want to use the Git plugin for Provar, you can still use Git with Provar by manually checking in your Project and Test Case files from your local directory.
Prerequisites
If you are new to Git, get started by following Salesforce’s Git and Github Basics Trailhead module. This includes instructions on installing Git and creating your first repository. You can also refer to Creating a Provar Repository for detailed steps as they relate to Provar’s workflow.
This module also invites you to choose between Git and Git Desktop, which provides a more visual interface for interacting with the repository.
Enabling the Git plugin
When using the Git plugin for the first time, or after updating to a new version of Provar, the plugin must be enabled in your Provar instance.
First ensure you are running Provar as an administrator.
In Windows this is done by right-clicking on provar.exe and selecting Run as administrator:
On a Mac this is done by opening the Terminal, running sudo /Applications/Provar.app/Contents/MacOS/provar then entering the Admin password:
Then go to the toolbar in Provar and click Help > Add/Remove Features:
Tick the checkbox against the EGIT plugin:
Then click the Install button.
The following dialog box will appear:
Click OK. The plugin options will become available for use after a restart.
Once the Git plugin is installed, you will need a Provar Project to work on. Refer to Git and Provar Projects to learn more about importing a Provar Project from an existing local repository, cloning from an existing Project stored in Git or creating a Project locally and linking it to Git.
